Prison Gevangenis Cel

Hide your car and personal belongings. They all managed to escape from a Belgian prison in Dendermonde early Saturday morning. Nine of the prisoners have already been recaptured. Most of them are from Eastern Europe, car thiefs and burglars.

Two prisoners opened a cell door and then overpowered and locked up two guards. They were able to escape with tied sheets and freed others too. Everyone blames the antiquated state of the prison. The prison is a traditional-style prison building, which dates back to the 1850’s. Plans for a new prison in Dendermonde were announced 6 years ago. They start building a new one in 2008.

  1. Scary stuff! They must be super happy, and proud, to have broken out like they did. It sounds like they didn’t want to hurt any of the guards. If all their crimes are non-violent, then at least this isn’t as bad as it could be ;)

  2. Absolutely right.. They did not kill anyone or such things. But in Belgium.. They have a bad name overthere. Their Justice Department isn’t that well. The prisons look like Middle Age Castles.
