The NOAA predicts an active season but a repeat of last year’s record season is unlikely.
There have been above-normal Atlantic hurricane seasons since 1995. These are caused by:
- warmer than average sea surface temperatures
- lower vertical wind shear
- reduced sea level pressure
- a more conducive structure of the African easterly jet
